KISS
The Farewell Tour - Australia 2001
KISS have recently completed
the Australian leg of the Farewell tour. Fans
lucky enough to see it witnessed some spectacular shows - Eric Singer has
certainly revitalised the band and the shows are looking and sounding great.
On the Japan/Aussie leg
of the tour we got a few changes in the setlist from
the established US run, and some cities in Aussie saw some rare classic songs
being jammed - songs that haven't been played anywhere else on this tour!
We have audio of all
three of the Melbourne shows from the Rod Laver Arena
and the first Sydney show from the Sydney Superdome, and they are now made
available to the fans. We are burning the shows to compact disc since that's
the
format everyone has been asking for - each show is a 2 CD set. The audio has
been
split up into separate tracks properly, Pauls raps being at the end of each
track as
opposed to the start of the new one, no 2 seconds of silence between tracks
like
some boots, etc ... In other words we took our time to do it properly.
Shows available are ...

All shows are approximately
120 mins in duration, and setlists
and details of the bonus tracks that fill the CD's are listed below.
We are really pushing
the 3rd Melbourne show as the one to get if you just want a
single show due to it being the best overall in terms of sound, setlist and
performance.
Obviously different people have different scoring regimes for audio quality,
but it
is certainly an excellent sounding audience recording.

A trademark Gene lyric screwup!
Additional :
Ace is having guitar
troubles for the first few songs .. during the start of
"Talk To Me" he sings "My guitaar" to get things fixed.
During Gene's bass break
in "Let Me Go Rock n Roll" he experiments a little, and sings a
cool little adlib several times during the song (this is also in every other
show except Melbourne 3).
Gene doesn't have a spotlight
on him for the start of "100,000 Years".
Angry Demon - "Yeah .. over here genius .. Einstein..."
During his rap for "Love
Gun" Paul switches to a cordless mic, which wasn't being relayed
to his earpiece - "Get this mutha-fucker on in my earpiece - NOW!"
During Black Diamond Eric sings the second verse twice - the first time where the first verse should be.
Eric is slow returning to the stage after the bow ... "Oh no - we've lost another drummer!" - Paul.
Ace's guitar pyro for "Rock and Roll All Nite" doesn't work.

Additional :
Ace's guitar pyro during
"Rock and Roll All Nite" didn't go off, his roadie came out and
switched
it on after he had finished playing it and Ace promptly started chasing Gene
around with it going off.
Ace's scissor lift for "Rock and Roll All Nite" doesn't go up so
he just shrugs and waves
at Gene who is up on his.
Eric is wearing what seems to be an arm brace ...

Yep - the first time Goin' Blind and Mr Speed have ever been performed live in makeup!
Bonus Tracks -
- I Still Love You (1st
Melbourne show). On the third night Paul just
played the intro ... here's the first nights performance of around about
half of the complete song.
- Makin' Love (1st Sydney
show). This was generally included in the jam,
but not at the 3rd Melbourne gig, so here it is.
- Got to Choose (1st Melbourne show).
- I Love It Loud (1st
Sydney show). Gene doesn't sing any of the lyrics
in the right places and throws in some new stuff as he's going along.
A trademark Gene lyric screwup!
Additional :
The audio quality dips a little bit during the first song here and there,
unfortunately thats just the way it was recorded. Otherwise things are fine.
Ace had guitar problems
during the first song, and the first break where Gene and Ace play
and then Paul joins them has just Gene and then Paul joining as Ace was talking
to his guitar tech.
Ace is a little late
switching guitars for "Talk To Me" (his guitar for that song is
in a different tuning) and
Paul says that Ace will introduce the song but then starts to himself. Ace
says that he thought he was
going to introduce the song and Paul says he didn't want the audience to fall
asleep - Ace reassures
the crowd that they "Fuckin' rock!".
After his guitar smokes
and flies up to the ceiling Ace says that his guitar is only three years old
and "fuckin' smoking! ... urgh.."
When Ace sings the second
verse on "Cold Gin" he sings half the second verse and half
of the first .. Gene corrects him.
When the band come out
for their bow Eric screams "Yeah!" into the microphone in quite
a high pitched
voice ... Gene (from memory) screams a high pitched "Yeah" in the
mic to mock him.
Someone throws some panties
on stage with what seems to be a phone number in them. Paul jokes
that they say "Dear Gene, my name is Steve".
Ace starts the majority
of the songs in the jam, making Gene ask "What does the Ace Frehley
Band want to do next?" .. which starts Ace playing Rocket Ride, which
Gene and Paul
don't have a clue how to play.

Additional :
Ace says that he has a question - "Talk to Me!"
Gene completely screws
up the lyrics to "I Love It Loud" .. he mixes things around
and makes up some new stuff as he goes.
Gene's lyrics to "Let
Me Go Rock and Roll" are a little iffy ... he skips the first verse
in lieu of singing the second and then the third twice.
When Gene flies to the top of the platform he throws in a "Gidday Digger" between "Oh Yeah?" 's.
There you go then.
Like it says above, if
you want to get just a single show from Aussie and are unsure
which to pick then we really recommend the 3rd Melbourne gig as the one to
have.
